Things to do, places to see

Croston is a picturesque Lancashire village on the banks of the River Yarrow, 10 miles south of Preston, between Chorley and Southport and close to the villages of Eccleston, Bretherton, Mawdesley, Rufford and Euxton. The Church of St Michael and All Angels stands at the heart of the Conservation Area and the adjacent Croston Old School is now a Community Resource Centre.

Church Street, where a cross erected in 1953 is believed to mark the site of an ancient preaching cross, leads to the well known local landmark of Town Bridge, built in 1682, which spans the River Yarrow opposite the Grapes public house. Further along Town Road the Village Green, close to the site where a market was allowed to be held each year according to a charter granted by Edward I in 1283,  is a focal point for village events such as Bastille Day, which celebrates the twinning with Azay le Rideau in France. Here also can be found two more popular public houses, The Lord Nelson and The Wheatsheaf as well as Fresco Fresco an Italian Restaurant and Panshi which serves Indian food. Other village pubs include The Black Horse and The Crown. Shops such as a Newsagent & Post Office, Chemist and Grocery Stores provide most requirements without venturing out of the village.
